In accordance with Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and Council, these information are provided in compliance with the provisions of Legislative Decree 196/2003 and its amendments of the Italian Republic, with the Decision of the Data Protection Authority no. 231 of June 10, 2021, as well as Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and Council.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are text strings that websites (referred to as Publishers or “first parties”) visited by the user or other websites or web servers (referred to as “third parties”) place and store – directly, in the case of publishers, and indirectly, through these parties, in the case of third parties – on a device that is available to the user. The devices referred to here include, for example, a computer, tablet, smartphone, or any other device capable of storing information.

Internet browsing software and the functioning of these devices, such as browsers, can store cookies and then transmit them back to the websites that generated them during a subsequent visit by the same user, thus retaining memory of their previous interaction with one or more websites.

The information encoded in cookies can include personal data, such as an IP address, username, a unique identifier, or an email address, but can also contain non-personal data, such as language settings or information about the type of device the person is using to browse the website.

Cookies therefore perform several important functions, including session tracking, storing information about specific configurations related to users accessing the server, facilitating access to online content, etc. They can be used to track items in an online shopping cart or information used to fill out an online form.

Through cookies, it is possible to allow web pages to load more quickly, as well as route information over a network, in line with tasks strictly connected to the operation of the websites. Cookies are also used for behavioral advertising (“behavioral advertising”) and to measure the effectiveness of advertising messages, or to tailor the types and methods of services based on the behavior of the user observed previously.

Types of Cookies

Italian legislation (Article 122 of Legislative Decree 196/03, “Code on the Protection of Personal Data,” hereinafter referred to as “Privacy Code”) has incorporated Directive 2009/136/EC into Italian law, which requires website operators using cookies or other tracking technologies to inform users about the types of cookies used on the site.

With the Provision No. 231 of June 10, 2021, published in the Official Gazette No. 163 of July 9, 2021, the Data Protection Authority has divided cookies into two main categories: “technical” cookies and “non-technical” cookies.

Technical Cookies

These are installed by the site owner or manager to “carry out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communication network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service” (Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Privacy Code). The installation of Technical Cookies does not require prior user consent.

First-party and third-party analytics cookies

These are considered equivalent to technical cookies and other technical identifiers if:

• They are used solely to produce aggregate statistics related to a single site or a single mobile application;

• The fourth component of the IP address is masked for third-party cookies;

• Third parties refrain from combining these minimized analytics cookies with other processing (customer files or visit statistics of other sites, for example) or transmitting them to further third parties. However, it is allowed for third parties to produce statistics with data relating to multiple domains, websites, or mobile applications under the same publisher or corporate group.

The data controller who carries out statistical processing on data related to multiple domains, websites, or mobile applications under their control can use unmasked data, in compliance with the purpose limitation.

Non-Technical Cookies

These cookies are used to attribute specific actions or recurring behavior patterns (patterns) to identified or identifiable subjects, in order to group different profiles within homogeneous clusters of varying sizes, thus enabling more personalized service provision and targeted advertising based on user preferences displayed during browsing.

These cookies are referenced by Article 122 of the Privacy Code, which states that “the storage of information on the terminal device of a customer or user or the access to already stored information is only allowed if the customer or user has expressed consent after being informed in the simplified manner provided in Article 13, paragraph 3 of the Privacy Code” (Article 122, paragraph 1 of the Privacy Code).

The Data Protection Authority has also categorized cookies based on the entity responsible for the processing of personal data collected by the cookie, distinguishing between “first-party” cookies and “third-party” cookies.

First-party Cookies

These are managed by the website owner. The obligation to inform users about these cookies lies with the website owner, who must also specify how to block these cookies if necessary.

Third-party Cookies

These are managed by a third party, different from the website owner. For these cookies, the obligation to inform users and provide instructions on how to block them lies with the third party. The website owner is required to provide a link to the third party’s site where the third party’s privacy policy and cookie blocking instructions are provided.

For both first-party and third-party cookies, consent is required if the cookie is a profiling cookie, and this consent is collected through a banner on the website’s homepage.

Types of Cookies Used on Our Website

This website uses technical cookies, which can be used without requesting consent from the Data Subject, as they are strictly necessary for providing the service. Additionally, third-party profiling cookies may be used, and their use is subject to the consent directly given to these third parties by accessing their cookie usage information.
